WORLD BOOK DAY 2024

We had lots of activities running to celebrate World Book Day and our love of reading!

We had a special World Book Day family assembly, we all 'dressed as a word' to encourage new and exciting vocabulary, we had a 'story in a jar' competition, we had a book swap, some of our older children shared stories with our younger children and we had Matt from the local library to share information about the library's facilities as well as reading to some of our children too.

What a fantastic day!

Harvest Foodbank Donation

We know how important the foodbank is to many local families and after lots of our families donated food items as part of our Harvest celebration. A group of Year 3 & 4 children delivered lots of items, they then helped sort the items ready to be put away on the shelves. Once the sorting and storing was done, they got to pack a parcel that would go to a local family to help them for one week. It was an eye opening experience and our children came away with lots more information about how the Foodbank is used.

If you need or know anyone who needs support from the foodbank, whether it be one off or regularly, please get in touch with the school office who can help you.

They then spent some time on Spittal beach playing on the sand before a packed lunch in the walled park. It was a lovely day and the children made replica Lighthouses when they returned to school.

Paxton House Trip

Oak Class had a fantastic day on Thursday at Paxton House. First, we had a tour around the House, learning about how children lived and played in Victorian times which was very interesting. We talked about toys now and compared them with old toys and saw how different they were when we played with them. The children then had great fun making their own toys. After lunch and some time in the playpark, we had an afternoon of forest activities. Lancelot was extremely knowledgeable about the trees and we compared the different leaves from the trees around the grounds. On return to the House the children were fascinated with the results of their leaf rubbings. At the end of the day we were even lucky enough to plant some flowers outside the House, which if you are there, you can go and see how much they've grown.
