OUR GOVERNING BODY

The Governing Body plays an important part in the life of our school. The Governors are responsible for the appointment of staff, management of the school, maintenance of the building, ensuring our high standards are maintained and a range of other matters which enable the school to function smoothly. All Governors are members of either the Resources Committee or the Curriculum Committee.

Governors formally visit school once a term and report back to the Governors’ termly meeting. Minutes of Governors’ meetings are available in school for inspection by parents.

Governors complete an annual Register of Pecuniary Interests, which you can find below.

Anne Robertson - Chair of Governors

My name is Anne, and I am the Chair of Governors at Scremerston.
I am a recently retired headteacher. I was at Tweedmouth West for 20 years, so I have been part of the Berwick partnership for a long time. Scremerston is a good school with a great staff, and I was very happy to join the team.
I was not quite ready to leave the world of education altogether!
I am also a very recent grandparent, so will have lots of involvement with young children for some time to come!

Jacqueline Jones - Governor

I have recently moved to the area from Newcastle, where I also served as a school governor. Having previously worked in a school, I recognise the importance of strong governance in supporting staff and pupils.
I have a particular interest in policies and procedures, ensuring accountability, and contributing to the effective running of the school. I am passionate about giving back to the community and helping to create positive opportunities for future generations. I believe strongly in making sure every child has equal opportunities and is able to get the very best from all that a school offers.
Outside of my role as governor, I volunteer with the RNLI and with Froglife on countryside ecology projects. I also enjoy watersports, gardening and baking in my spare time.
I look forward to working with the staff, children, and families of Scremerston Primary School to support the school’s continued success.

Kiera Thorpe - Co-Opted Governor

I am a retired First School teacher from St Cuthbert’s First School and have always had a very positive relationship with the staff from Scremeston First. They have always been very welcoming, supportive and kind.
I have lived in Berwick now for twenty four years but originally come from Derry in Northern Ireland. I have two lovely daughters who both live in Edinburgh.  So home is quiet with my husband and little dog .
I enjoy reading, walking and cooking. I have been trying to improve my abilities to bake scones but it is still hit and miss!
I look forward to working with the staff, children and families of Scremeston First School in my capacity of governor .

Bianca O'Mara - Staff Governor

My name is Bianca O’Mara and I recently joined Scremerston Primary as a Key Stage 2 teacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

I have lived in and around Berwick for most of my life and have been teaching in the area for the past ten years. From early in my career, I realised how much I enjoyed teaching primary-aged pupils and was drawn to Scremerston Primary because of its strong and welcoming sense of community. As a teacher at Scremerston Primary, I care deeply about the children, families and community that make our school so special. Working in the classroom every day gives me first-hand insight into what our pupils need to feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn.

As a staff governor, I will use my experience and understanding to contribute thoughtfully to decisions that shape our school’s future. I am committed to ensuring that every child’s voice matters and that all policies and priorities reflect what is truly in the best interests of our children.  I feel particularly passionate about supporting our pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development from their start here at Scremerston through to becoming confident adults within the wider community.

My name is Jane, and I am delighted to be able to serve as a governor at Scremerston Primary School. I am a retired head teacher of a primary school and look forward to continuing my close involvement in education.
I am passionate about all children having the opportunity to receive an excellent education and believe that effective governance, strong parent partnership and community links go a long way towards ensuring schools remain at the heart of their community.
I am a member of a local church, where I play the piano in the worship band; my hobbies also include knitting and walking our border collie along some of the best beaches and beautiful countryside in the UK.
